Welcome to Westchester
Dominated largely by Loyola Marymount students and families, Westchester is a sweet little suburban village just north of LAX. Technically LAX sits within Westchester, but the meat and bones of the town are a quiet, quaint city that feels very separate from the craziness of LA.
Wide streets, ample parking, and a tranquil atmosphere all make this an excellent place to buy a home and raise a family. Westchester is perfect for people who want to be close to LA but want a more peaceful environment. Parks, hiking, and biking trails are available throughout the municipality, including the noteworthy Westchester Park.
Westchester Recreation Center offers community sports, cultural programs, and plenty to do on its campus. They also offer day camps for kids in the summer, winter, and spring. Westchester feels like any old suburb in America but is centrally located in LA County.
The city, like many LA neighborhoods, is rich in history. Westchester Triangle is a historic commercial district with fun architecture, and great restaurants, and hosts the weekly farmer’s market. With year-round great weather, the market is almost always open with local vendors and farmers selling organic, sustainable, and homemade goods.
Proximity to the airport is one of the best parts of Westchester. Anyone who wants to live in LA but travels often has an easy exit. While many people in LA have to travel an hour or more to the airport, Westchester residents get to skip the traffic and make their flight.
Residents love the city because it’s quiet, safe, and close to many other places. Marina del Rey, Venice Beach, and Santa Monica are all a quick drive to the north. Head the other direction for LA’s famed South Bay with gorgeous beaches in Manhattan, Hermosa, and South Redondo. El Segundo boasts Top Golf and the Point. Inland, Culver City boasts studios, shopping centers, and an excellent downtown area with great restaurants and art galleries.
Westchester is the best-kept secret of the West LA neighborhoods. Homes are more affordable and have larger footprints; residents get a bigger bang for their buck. Buyers have more options and space in Westchester, making it an excellent neighborhood to specialize in.
