Welcome to El Segundo
A close-knit little town just south of LAX, El Segundo has a quaint, suburban feel and excellent location. As one of the primary cities in the South Bay, it’s close to Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo Beach. A growing population of young professionals and families are bringing big development to the area from shopping centers to the ultra-popular Top Golf sports complex. Plus the less-than-ten-minute drive to the airport is absolutely unbeatable.
Head to downtown El Segundo for delicious food, coffee, and culture, all on a cute walkable street. Main Street is home to favorites like Two Guns Espresso and Blue Butterfly Coffee, plus James Enoteca and Chef Hannes Restaurant. Both sides of Sepulveda provide much to do and see.
With no oceanfront home access (the coast of El Segundo is dominated by a factory and the gorgeous Vista del Mar street), housing in El Segundo is some of the most affordable in the West LA assortment of neighborhoods. The beachside city is home to just under 20,000 residents, but there is plenty to do.
El Segundo is a booming city of industry, with corporate offices like Boeing to Mattel. The name of the city itself is named for business. El Segundo means “The Second” in Spanish, and the city was aptly dubbed so after Chevron built its second refinery in 1911.
Proximity to one of the busiest airports in the world makes El Segundo host to many aerospace entities; many call it the aerospace capital of the world. As stated before, Boeing has a huge presence, as well as Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and Los Angeles Air For Base. With such diverse companies and their employees, El Segundo remains a melting pot of talent, culture, and diversity.
The Point and Plaza El Segundo have high-end quick and fine dining, including the highly-esteemed Little Sister (can’t get a reservation at their DTLA location? Book the Point!). They also just added the first and only Top Golf in LA, a mega-successful high-tech golf complex that’s fun for everyone.
Random fact: According to IMDB, the inspiration for the much-loved and critically-acclaimed show Parks and Recreation starring Amy Poehler is based on the El Segundo Parks and Rec team. The name Ron Swanson, who is many viewers' favorite character, was the actual name of the El Segundo Parks and Recreation director. We have no idea how and what the El Segundo team did to provoke a hilarious show about them, but it's only mildly unsurprising that a city so close to Hollywood would be featured in a sitcom.
